Improve post-race status transition and "Race B" activity logic

Feedback/Issue: I am experiencing a consistent issue where the system fails to correctly transition from "pre-race preparation" to "post-race recovery" after completing a planned B-priority race.

Description: Even when a workout is correctly linked to a scheduled B-priority race event in the calendar, the system continues to display pre-race advice (e.g., "this is the final key workout before the race") and ignores that the race has been completed.

Impact:

  • The automated coaching notes provide irrelevant, pre-race guidance even after the race is finished.

  • It fails to recognize the activity as the "goal" event, leading to confusion in the recovery phase analysis.

  • The system treats the post-race fatigue purely as unexpected training stress rather than a planned recovery requirement following a specific race event.

Suggestion: It would be highly beneficial if the system could trigger a "Post-Race Analysis" mode immediately upon marking the race activity as completed. The system should automatically shift from pre-race warnings to post-race recovery/adaptation mode once the event is marked as finished.

Hi Radim, thanks, this is a really useful report and you were right that something was off.

The actual cause turned out to be a sport-matching gap, not a timing one. Your race was typed as a gravel ride, and the logic that decides "this activity IS the race" only recognised a short list of sport types, and gravel wasn't on it. So it never connected your ride to the race event on the calendar, treated the ride as an ordinary training session, and wrote the "final key workout before the race" build-up even though the race had already happened.

This is now fixed and live: IntervalCoach recognises the sport of a race whatever it is, gravel, mountain bike, walk, hike and the rest, so a completed race is matched to its event and gets a proper post-race recap instead of pre-race copy. I also added a recovery frame for the days after a race, so the tiredness reads as the expected cost of the race rather than unexpected training stress, which was your third point.

Thanks for laying it out so clearly, it's exactly what let me find the real cause.

    Cheers,
    Martijn

      Hi Martijn,

Just wanted to let you know — unfortunately the fix doesn't seem to be working, the system is still behaving the same way.

After yesterday's race, the "race" activity is still being treated as a workout leading up to the race, and the following recovery is read as a random performance drop / health disaster :)

If you get a chance to look at yesterday's data — it's a gravel race again, and everything is correctly linked/paired in Intervals.icu. Not sure if this is something on my end or a system issue.

      Thanks,
      RJ

Hi Radim, this one slipped through, thanks for checking it on a real race. You caught it right before the fix reached your account. On 15 August your EPIC RIDE was re-analysed as the race itself, and from then on the days after it were treated as recovery from the race, not as an unexplained drop. You haven't raced since, so I can't show you a second one yet. After your next race, if the notes still talk about "the final key workout before the race", reply here and I'll look at that exact activity.
